Professor Zhang has long engaged in research on signal processing theory, algorithms, and interdisciplinary applications. His research interests include statistical signal processing, sensor networks and IoT, multimedia and multimodality AI, machine learning/embodied AI/robotics, and applications in big data, finance, and marketing. In recent years, his work has focused on emerging directions such as optically carried information, the low-altitude economy, embodied intelligence, and physics-informed artificial intelligence, emphasizing integrated innovation and application empowerment.
With more than thirty years of deep engagement in signal processing, he is one of the leading scholars in the international signal processing community. He has made foundational theoretical contributions in wavelet transforms and optimal filtering, threshold neural networks, target localization, and graph signal processing; published hundreds of papers in international journals and conferences; been named a Distinguished Lecturer by the IEEE Signal Processing Society and the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society; and led many national and provincial research projects. His research has won multiple awards and has been widely applied in smart cities, communications, financial technology, and intelligent operations and maintenance for rail transit. In 2026, he received the Jury Special Commendation Gold Medal at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva. He has been consecutively listed among Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists for both career-long and single-year impact, and currently serves as the leader of a Guangdong provincial innovation and entrepreneurship team.
